Causes of Diabetes

pH Factor Imbalance

What is a pH Factor?
What causes pH imbalance?
How does it affect diabetes?
Is an imbalance dangerous?

pH stands for potential of hydrogen and it measures concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance.  Out of a scale of 0-14, acidic is 0-7 and alkaline is 7-14.

Our blood pH is 7.4 so it is slightly alkaline, and our bodies perform all kinds of chemical reactions to maintain this level, so it is very important.

The recipe in the video below is breakfast for week one - day one and the ingredients are pineapple, spinach, celery, cucumber, lemon and ginger.  These ingredients help to balance our blood pH levels.

Spinach, celery, cucumber and ginger have a pH factor of over 7 and are therefore alkaline.  Pineapple has a pH factor of just 2, making it very acidic, however, it becomes less so if it is eaten alongside protein found in spinach and ginger.

Lemon is interesting because it also has a pH factor of just 2, however once digested, it becomes alkaline, and that's because the citric acid in lemons releases alkaline properties during the digestion process.

So what's all this pH factor business about, and is it very important?

Diseases like diabetes and cancer thrive in an acidic environment and if they were placed in a bowl and covered with an alkaline agent, they would die instantly.  But here's the rub.  Some say that all food is subject to extreme acid breakdown as it goes through the digestion process, so it doesn't matter if it is acidic or alkaline.  I would suggest that it does matter - quite a bit.  Because even though food receives an acid bath before it reaches our large intestine, the 'acid' is not one type, but several, to break down (and not disintegrate), the different food types - carbohydrates, protein and fats from large molecules to single monosaccharides.  These monosaccharides are then passed through the small intestine to enter the blood stream.

Eating more acid food (meat, dairy products, fish, processed food) than alkaline, could easily tip the delicate pH balance and cause all sorts of problems - especially for diabetics.

That is why the delicious recipes in my eBook 'Stamp Out Diabetes in your Life - 30-day Menu' have been carefully selected to ensure that there is a good mixture of both acid and alkaline food types to keep the pH balance in our blood.
